Peter Luger Steak House - 178 Broadway (at Driggs Ave.), Brooklyn, NY
|
|
A recent renovation has refreshed this venerable steakhouse, yet it is
comforting to know that this is still all about steak. Originally opened in 1887, Peter Luger
was sold upon the death of its namesake to Sol Forman in the 1940s, and is still owned by the
Forman family. Today, Peter Luger continues to satisfy the cravings of carnivores by focusing
on hand-selected USDA prime beef that is dry-aged in-house resulting in the meat's velvety
texture and unmistakably rich flavor. Sharing is de rigueur; the menu offers sizzling platters
of Porterhouse steak for 2, 3 or 4 people. The selection of side dishes is just as concise but
equally delicious. The decadent creamed spinach and German fried potatoes are two delightful Luger
traditions.
A dense slice of cheesecake or the "holy cow" hot fudge sundae will bring any meal to
a suitably over-the-top close.
